Let me start by declaring what this post is not about. It’s not about making an image or video go viral. It’s also not about "post to Facebook" or "share on Twitter" messages after a supporter has donated or signed a petition (the after-action social share).
It is about how nonprofits can move the needle on advocacy, education and fundraising campaigns using a focused "share this" image/video call to action. This tactic asks supporters (via email and social, but more on that later) to share an image or a video on their social networks (usually Facebook and Twitter) in support of your campaign or cause.
