Brown University announced Monday that is has received a $50 million gift from a consortium of donors to fund construction of a new building and hire new faculty to expand the Thomas J. Watson Jr. Institute for International and Public Affairs.
About $25 million will be used for a new 20,000-square-foot building to accommodate additional faculty and the program’s expansion, the university said in a statement. The process of selecting a site and designing the facility is expected to begin now that the funding has been secured.
The remaining $25 million, the university said, will be used to increase the institute’s faculty roster to about 30 professors.
The donation is part of the initial fundraising efforts toward the university’s $3 billion comprehensive campaign announced in October.
