Charity regulators are cracking down on fundraising scammers after concerns that fraudsters had used tragedies such as Grenfell Tower and terror attacks to dupe donors.
Fundraising platforms are to attend a meeting with the Charity Commission to agree new guidelines after websites, such as JustGiving and GoFundMe, were forced to suspend fundraising pages for tragedies, including the Westminster attack.
The new proposals could mean tougher checks for people looking to set up the pages or requirements for them to give out better information on where the funds are going.
Funds raised for a charitable purpose via these pages must go to a registered charity, but there are concerns that some fundraisers and donors are not aware of this.
