The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has announced grants totaling $15 million for conservation efforts around the globe. Grants were awarded in support of efforts aimed at protecting key endangered species and threatened marine and terrestrial ecosystems, empowering indigenous communities, and securing long-term investments in conservation and climate change adaptation efforts.
Recipients include ClearWater, which is working with an alliance of indigenous tribes in the Amazon to protect their lands, water and culture; Oceans 5, an international funders' collaborative working to create trust funds in support of marine reserves across the world's five oceans; and the Pacific Wolf Coalition, an alliance of 37 organizations dedicated to protecting wolves across suitable habitats in Washington, Oregon and Northern California. Grants also were awarded to several winners of the Goldman Environmental Prize, including Fatima Jibrell of Adeso, Rudi Putra of Forest, Nature and Environment of Aceh and the Leuser Conservation Forum, and Dimitry Lisitsyn of Sakhalin Environment Watch.
