We’re used to scouring eBay for scoring deals on designer duds, or for maybe finding that obscure vacuum part. But now the online market behemoth has jumped into the world of charity gifting.
Launched on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, the eBay for Charity team’s new "Gifts That Give Back initiative" allows charitable organizations to “sell” donations as gifts for others. Partner nonprofits are the ASPCA, March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity, CARE, the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. When someone gifts through the program, eBay doesn’t take a cut; 100 percent of funds gifted go to the organization. Gifts are available at $25, $50, $75 and $100 levels. More charities could be added, depending on the interest level and consumer response.
