Columbia nonprofit leaders are speaking out about the importance of integrity in the wake of four charities being accused of fraudulently using more than $187 million in donations and are working to ensure the case doesn't dissuade donors from giving to legitimate causes. The local leaders also emphasized that honest organizations will have nothing to hide, and donors should feel free to ask questions before giving.
The four organizations under investigation solicited donations in Columbia and throughout South Carolina, as well as elsewhere, primarily through telemarketing.
