PayPal has announced that it has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the most money raised online for charity in 24 hours, following a successful campaign in December for #GivingTuesday. It raised $45.8 million for various charities, beating the previous record of $19 million.
This accolade comes alongside news that during the holiday season, more than $857 million globally was raised through PayPal for charities.
On Dec. 1, PayPal teamed up with the 92nd Street Y cultural center to see if it could topple the aforementioned world record. In previous years, the company raised $8.6 million in the same timeframe, but obviously trumped that many times over this year.
