House Majority Whip Steve Scalise on Thursday is set to announce a $3 million fundraising haul for the first quarter of 2018—a record amount for the No. 3 Republican that came despite his limited mobility after being shot last year.
Scalise, who was shot last June during a congressional baseball practice and recently relearned to walk, has hosted 50 fundraising events with members or specials guests benefiting his own committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee. He’s transferred $1 million to the House GOP’s campaign arm and donated more than $650,000 directly to incumbents or GOP candidates, his office is set to announce Thursday.
That’s more than any whip has raised in the first quarter of an election year, according to his office.
