1. Donations Declined 1.7% — the First Downward Trend in Dollars Since 2012
For a decade, donor dollars managed to rise year over year, but donations could not keep that pace in 2022 when a fourth-quarter stall resulted in a 1.7% decline, according to Fundraising Effectiveness Project figures. Nonprofits struggled with acquisition and retention, particularly among major donors who pulled back on giving in the fourth quarter of 2022 due to economic conditions.
