The current environment can be challenging for nonprofits. As resources are stretched thin, the need for services is continuing to increase. The University of San Francisco took a look at the current and future state of nonprofit philanthropy in the infographic to the left.
Here’s what researchers found:
• Since 1970, charitable giving has risen about one-third as fast as the stock market.
• The top three recipients of charitable dollars in 2015 were religious groups, education and human services
• These three markets received almost 60 percent of the $373.25 billion donated in 2015.
One of the most important steps that any nonprofit organization seeking donations will have to undertake is learning the new medium of communication: The internet. In 2013, some of the largest organizations reported a 13 percent rise in online donations, with some exceeding $10 million.
Knowing your audience is essential to maximizing charitable donations. One essential factor that goes along with knowing your donors is remaining transparent with them. Donors will remain loyal and trust your organization the more they know about how their money is being allocated.
Although philanthropy is on the rise, it is essential for nonprofit leaders to raise their brand awareness and maintain the trust of their donors through their online presence.
Remaining active in the digital world will help your organization better understand potential donors.
