It’s no surprise to any of us that technology is on the rise. You’ve heard the same song before (and we’ve talked about it a lot here at NonProfit PRO). We’re advocates for technology, and we believe that the landscape is changing—and we should embrace it!
While mobile devices and email are talked about quite a bit, there’s one that has been sitting in the back burner for far too long, and it’s time to bring it to the forefront: text messaging.
Social Brite came out with an infographic titled, “How to Attract and Keep Donors With Text Messaging,” and we think it shares some fabulous key points. According to the infographic, 51 percent of people visit a nonprofit’s website through a mobile device, while the click-through rate for text messages is 36 percent and click-through rate for email is 7 percent.
Here are Social Brite’s tips for attracting and keeping donors through text messages.
1. Grow a subscriber list. One way to do so is to add a widget on your organization’s website, describing the type of messaging that the recipient will receive and allowing them to enter their mobile number to instantly subscribe.
2. Drive donations through a text-to-give approach. You can spread the work about text-to-give through your website, newsletters, social media, TV and on-site signs. The message should include the following factors: need, visual, solution and value.
3. Turn one-time donors into ongoing supporters. Do this by sending a simple thank-you message, soliciting donations with spamming, letting your subscribers meet you, respecting your donor’s time, keeping supporters in the loop and letting them know that their opinions are valued.
