(Press release, Jan. 15, 2015) — As we begin 2015, think back about your year and how far you, your nonprofit and your community have come. It’s likely that these successes didn’t come easy … or alone. Think about the volunteer fundraiser that got you through an event. Or a corporation or foundation that gave you that extra push. What about the youth in your community that reminded you what philanthropy was all about?
They sound like some really incredible people and organizations — the Association of Fundraising Professionals wants to know more! Show us, via video, your passion and thanks for those outstanding corporations, foundations, philanthropists, volunteers and youths in philanthropy.
Once again for 2015, the AFP National Philanthropy Day Honors program is going viral! Instead of the written nomination form that you once filled out, we are asking you to show us. There is nothing more powerful than watching someone talk about his or her appreciation and awe of another person or organization. So, go ahead, blow us away with the stories of your favorite philanthropist and supporter from 2014.
All you need is a smartphone, a BlackBerry, an iPad, a camcorder or anything capable of capturing a three-minute clip. It doesn’t have to be an over-the-top production — raw footage is real footage. Grab a colleague, a friend, a spouse, your daughter (as used by AFP’s Vice President of Public Affairs Michael Nilsen), a tripod — whomever or whatever will help you tell us about the person who deserves any of the six awards up for submission.
Now, about those six awards — anyone is eligible to be nominated. If you feel somoen is worthy, he or she is. So give your nominee the biggest compliment of all time and submit for an AFP award! The categories open for video nominations are:
- Award for Outstanding Corporation
- Award for Outstanding Foundation
- Award for Outstanding Philanthropist
- Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
- William R. Simms Award for Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy (Individual)
- William R. Simms Award for Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy (Group)
All video nominations must be in by Feb. 16, 2015. Voting for the awards will then commence, and honorees will be selected by the AFP Awards Committee. From there, the nominators (i.e., you) will be contacted for further information and additional steps. The final selected honorees will be recognized during AFP’s National Philanthropy Day® celebration in November 2015.
But for now, all you need to know is video nominations of three minutes or less are due by Feb. 16. And nominees can be anyone you know — they don’t have to have been honored previously to be selected.
The AFP National Philanthropy Day Honors portal is now ready at http://awards.afpresources.org. Here, you will find more detailed descriptions of each award category, a video walking you through the process, the form to upload your video, a Video Nominations FAQ and more. Plus, you can contact afpawards@afpnet.org with any questions.
What are you waiting for? It only takes three minutes! Submit your video nomination today!
