Change is Good?
Ah … it was a great run. But a tricky one. For the past few years, I’ve been wrestling with the challenge of letting FundRaising Success Senior Editor Abny Santicola do her thing without the rest of the Target Marketing Group catching on to how fabulous she is.
Alas, my luck ran out last week, and Abny went and got herself promoted. She’ll be moving into the new position of Target Marketing Group managing editor, overseeing production for a number of books and editorial products — including this one — both in print and online. She’ll also be taking on a supervisory role, coralling the talents of a group production editor and copy editor.
The change comes with the equally bittersweet departure of FS Production Editor Kendra Clayton from the company.
Abny has been a huge presence for this magazine since she took over as associate editor a few years ago. She’s made great inroads in the sector, developed terrific contacts and a deep knowledge of the issues at hand, and she was just starting to really get into producing videos to accompany print and online interviews, and to add depth to our coverage of sector events.
She also was an awesome “second in command” who I was extremely proud to have representing FundRaising Success.
I’ll still have the good fortune of working with Abny on a daily basis, but I definitely will miss her in her capacity as an editor for this particular magazine — as I’m sure all of you will, as well. Please join me in wishing her the best of luck in her new position. And when we find someone to fill her considerable shoes, I’ll let you know.
Welcome to our webinar
In case you hadn’t heard, FS is venturing into the webinar arena. Our first one will take place on Sept. 13 and focus on strategies for keeping your direct-mail efforts fresh and effective. Donors are getting more and more used to immediate interaction with the organizations they support, so this session will examine how to ensure they don’t get bored with direct mail.
It’s the kick-off webinar to the FundRaising Success Online Education Series, which will feature a webinar a month through the end of the year. Upcoming topics: eFundraising (Oct. 11); eFundraising 2.0 (Nov. 16); and Fearless Fundraising (Dec. 13).
September’s featured speakers are Robin Riggs from Robbins Associates, Huntsinger & Jeffer’s Willis Turner, DaVinci Direct’s Steve Maggio and copywriter/creative consultant Kimberly Seville. To sign up, head to our Web site at www.fundraisingsuccessmag.com.
