Blackbaud Index: Overall Giving up 5 Percent in February, Online Giving up 13.8 Percent

The Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving, a broad-based fundraising index that reports overall giving trends of 2,515 US-based nonprofit organizations representing $7.4 billion in yearly giving on a monthly basis, today reported that charitable giving rose 5 percent for the three months ending February 2012 as compared to the same period in 2011. The Blackbaud Index of Online Giving, comprised of actual revenue data from 1889 nonprofits representing $424 million in yearly online giving, reported that online giving rose 13.8 percent for the three months ending February 2012 as compared to the same period in 2011.
The Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving and The Blackbaud Index of Online Giving are currently updated on the 15th of each month (or the next business day) and are based on a three-month moving average of year-over-year percent changes in US-based charitable giving. They represent the most comprehensive and timely sources of charitable giving available.

In an effort to provide even more timely data for the sector, starting May 1, The Blackbaud Index will be released on the 1st of each month. A special report will also be released that day featuring a closer look at the expansion of the Index and the year-over-year performance for 2011.
