Charity Navigator, GuideStar Enter Partnership to Publish Charity Results
For the first time ever, Charity Navigator and GuideStar are entering into a partnership. Under this collaboration, the two organizations will “work together and advance the discussion of impact measurement among nonprofit organizations, while minimizing burden on nonprofits,” according to a press release.
Information gathered by GuideStar and prepared by charities will be published through Charity Navigator on Giving Tuesday (Nov. 28). Organizations that have GuideStar’s Gold and Platinum Seal of Transparency will have results published on their Charity Navigator’s profile pages.
“Collaborating with the sector to obtain and publish impact-related data is an exciting opportunity for both donors and nonprofits. The data won’t impact a charity’s ratings on Charity Navigator, but it does signal to all that the importance of sharing impact-related information is the next phase of accountability and transparency for public charities. The work GuideStar has done in collecting this data positions them as an ideal partner for us. We are delighted to be driving this innovation alongside and in close collaboration with them.” — Michael Thatcher, CEO of Charity Navigator
“This partnership is a step away from the overhead myth. It’s very encouraging to see Charity Navigator seeking out and sharing data that speaks to impact nonprofits are having on their missions. Simply put, this partnership will help donors make better decisions. What’s more, this data sharing allows nonprofits to maintain their focus on their missions.” — Jacob Harold, President and CEO of GuideStar
This new initiative will make it simpler for charities to share results and impact-related information to a widespread audience of about 20 million people, the release said.
