The same goes for embedding videos on your website — that “share” option is great and convenient, but many do not understand what they’re getting into when they click it.
True, there are associated terms of service that you can read if you hover over the links and navigate to the "Terms of Service" and "Privacy Policy" pages of the gadget provider’s site. I’m guessing here, but I doubt many people read a thousand words of “legalese” just to post a link to their Facebook pages. I’m not suggesting these organizations are universally selling your data and behaving unethically — some make a point about the care they exercise (although they all seem to insist that their data gathering makes it possible to present you with “more appropriate advertising content” or similar). But the point is that many people simply don’t realize what’s happening and almost certainly don’t rationalize it and change their browsing habits accordingly.
