DMANF Honors Mal Warwick With Max L. Heart Nonprofit Achievement Award
Washington, DC, January 30, 2009 — The Nonprofit Federation of the Direct Marketing Association (DMANF) today announced that Mal Warwick, Founder & Chairman, Mal Warwick Associates, has been selected as the 2009 recipient of its Max L. Hart Nonprofit Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement by an individual within the nonprofit community. The award was presented at a luncheon today during the Federation’s 2009 Washington Nonprofit Conference, which concludes this afternoon at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC.
“As a leading author, consultant, public speaker, and entrepreneur, Mal has been a tireless advocate on behalf of the nonprofit sector for the last three decades,” said Jeanne Harris, Vice President of Account Management at SCA Direct, and co-chair of the Nonprofit Federation Awards Committee. “Indeed, anyone who has worked in nonprofit fundraising at any point during the last thirty years has heard of, been taught or mentored by, worked with, or read the books and newsletters of Mal Warwick and in that regard, he has truly distinguished himself and is most deserving of this high honor.”
A serial entrepreneur, Warwick has actively promoted social and environmental causes in the business community nationwide for many years. Since 1979, Warwick’s company, Mal Warwick Associates, has served nonprofit organizations by developing innovative direct marketing-driven donor development programs. Later, Warwick founded its sister company, Response Management Technologies, Inc., a data processing firm for nonprofit organizations, and was co-founder of the telephone fundraising firm, Share Group, Inc. In 1999, he co-founded Donordigital, which assists nonprofit organizations with online fundraising, marketing and advocacy. Collectively, Warwick and his associates are responsible for raising at least half a billion dollars, largely in the form of small individual gifts.
Additionally, Warwick has written or edited a total of 18 books, including Revolution in the Mailbox, which is considered the direct marketing community’s standard fundraising text, and How to Write Successful Fundraising Letters, both of which are now in second editions. His two books on fundraising strategy — The Five Strategies for Fundraising Success and, with co-author Steve Hitchcock, Ten Steps to Fundraising Success — are in use throughout the world as strategic planning guides for nongovernmental organizations. He is also the editor of the free monthly electronic newsletter, Mal Warwick’s Newsletter: Successful Direct Mail, Telephone & Online Fundraising, which has 8,000 subscribers in 69 countries.
