On April 10, FundRaising Success is hosting its second annual Engage Conference. Engage is the only case-study-focused fundraising conference focusing on the keys to success from organizations that have successfully made the leap from just-getting-by nonprofits to powerhouse organizations. Leading up to Engage, we will be highlighting content from the participating organizations and speakers that we've published over the years.
Two very important issues have been hanging over the fundraising sector for years now: USPS rate increases and the proposed limitations on and/or elimination of tax breaks for charitable donations. These issue have very immediate and real effects on fundraising.
At the DMA Nonprofit Federation's 2012 Washington Nonprofit Conference, Gretchen Littlefield, president, nonprofit and government, at Infogroup, and Angel Aloma, executive director of Food For The Poor, discussed both topics and urged each and every fundraiser in attendance to take action and make his or her voice heard.
Aloma, ever the passionate speaker, really drove his point home: "The biggest sin of all is the sin of doing nothing."
The point was clear then and is just as clear and relevant today, with the USPS struggling and the tax breaks for philanthropy constantly up for discussion among legislators. For the health of the fundraising sector, a sector that allows the great nonprofits out there to continue doing all the wonderful work they do for a world in need, everyone must take action, just as Aloma urged two years ago.
Aloma will help present the Food For The Poor case study at Engage, as well as facilitate the "Building and Maintaining Passion in Your Fundraising Team" roundtables.
