Philanthrodating?
A recently launched site called GiveAndDate.com intended for socially conscious, single New Yorkers that carries the tagline "Find love and save the world, all before lunch," pairs philanthropy with dating, and is coming to a city near you.
Monthly subscriptions to the dating site cost $12, half of which goes to the its four partner charities — Williamsburg Collegiate, Animal Haven, Solar One and the Council on the Environment of New York City. In exchange for a donation of $1 or more — half of which, again, goes to a partner charity — users can pass a note to other users they're interested in, in the hopes of setting up a date. The site even makes clear that the person receiving the note will see how much the note sender donates, adding an interesting peer pressure element to the donation. Willing users also can volunteer to have their profiles featured on the site to generate greater funds in support of one of the charities.
