The GivingTuesday Data Commons estimated that donors contributed $3.6 billion to nonprofits across the United States — a 16% leap over 2023’s $3.1 billion tally. In addition to dollars, 7% more people gave year-over-year, totaling a record 36.1 million participants.
“This year’s record-breaking donations and participation demonstrate the incredible power of collective action,” Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, said in a statement. “When millions unite with a shared purpose, we don’t just give what we can — we create real, tangible change. Each donation, each act of generosity is a building block for community solutions that actually make a difference.”
Since its 2012 debut, the giving day has amassed $18.5 billion in giving. Of the 36.1 million participants, 18.5 million gave monetary contributions, 16.6 million advocated, 12.9 million gave goods and 9.2 million volunteered. While all sources increased year over year, donating goods saw the biggest gain of 32%.
“Generosity isn’t just about money — it’s about connection and community,” Curran said. “In a world that can feel increasingly divided, we’re seeing people unite through simple acts of kindness that have profound ripple effects.”
GivingTuesday Data Commons includes technology providers that process online giving, donor-advised funds and more, as well as serve as nonprofit’s donor databases to track both online and offline donations.
Benevity, a Canadian corporate social responsibility solution provider that is a partner of the GivingTuesday Data Commons, cited $140 million donated on its platform, as well as a 17% jump in volunteer hours among its 637 participating companies, supporting 56,000 nonprofits from 122 countries and territories.
“This year’s remarkable GivingTuesday results are a testament to the corporate community’s unwavering commitment to doing good, even giving both of their wallets and time, with a notable growth in volunteering time committed to nonprofits,” Christopher Maloof, CEO of Benevity, said in a statement. “GivingTuesday continues to inspire ongoing action, showing the powerful impact of aligning corporate influence with employee-driven purpose and passion.”
Bloomerang, also a partner of the GivingTuesday Data Commons, saw similar upward trends. For the giving platform, 9,513 nonprofits raised more than $56 million on GivingTuesday — a 32% year-over-year spike for the company. Significantly, the technology vendor found donations made via digital wallets more than doubled year over year.
Though the average donation at Bloomerang was $349 — a 10% increase over last year — the platform saw significant pledges north of $500,000, too. In addition, the platform experienced a 25% increase in the initiation of recurring donations.
“This incredible success demonstrates the undeniable power of technology to drive fundraising outcomes, even amidst economic uncertainty,” Dennis Fois, CEO at Bloomerang, said in a statement. “Our platform delivered for clients when it mattered most, kicking off a promising start to the giving season.”
