In response to COVID-19 and its impact on the nonprofit community, #GivingTuesday has announced #GivingTuesdayNow, a day dedicated to global giving and unity, which is set to take place on May 5, 2020.
#GivingTuesdayNow is designed to drive giving, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for nonprofit communities around the world. In this critical time of need, this initiative will rally people across the globe “to tap into the power of human connection and strengthen communities at the grassroots level.”
In addition, #GivingTuesday has announced it will commit $200,000 to launch The Startling Fund, which is designed to support #GivingTuesday’s existing network of official community and country leaders. According to its announcement, priority of the fund will go to leaders in the regions of the greatest crisis or lowest resource.
“#GivingTuesdayNow is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, beginning to end. Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. Every act of kindness is not only a beacon of hope, it’s a critical act of civic and social solidarity,” Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday, said.
