December 8, 2009, The Wall Street Journal - A senior senator asked 33 nonprofit medical groups, including the American Medical Association and American Cancer Society, for information on the financial support they receive from corporations.
Sen. Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican who for several years has probed the ties between the pharmaceutical industry and the medical advocacy groups it helps to fund, sent the letters to organizations of doctors as well as coalitions that lobby for government and corporate research funding for cancer, leukemia, Alzheimer's disease, mental-health problems and other ailments.
