It’s one of the most common pop culture tropes: Hero saves city, public turns on hero. Batman, Superman, Bruce Willis—you name the hero, it’s somewhere in the storyline. The good guy does some big heroic thing that either goes unnoticed or worse, turns the city against him.
But this isn’t comics, and this isn’t movies or TV. We get to write the story. And we say the heroes deserve to be recognized, to be honored. So we gathered submissions from across the nonprofit sector, pored over pages and pages of entries and narrowed it down to a select few—from executives and fundraisers to marketers and those behind the scenes—who have gone above and beyond in the last year.
