As I frantically race from event to event, checking my schedule, checking my email, stressing I've missed something, and—"Oh hey there! Good to see you too!"—now waving and smiling brightly, as I pray my outward appearance doesn't belie my inward turmoil at wanting—needing—to be everywhere all the time … I stop and breathe. WHEW! That is a lot of conferences!
The nonprofit world is rife with educational and networking opportunities. And with our industry growing and changing so much, at such incredible speed, how can one keep up? When planning our events this year, our short list to work around was 36 events. Thirty-six! And those were only the easily identifiable ones from less than a handful of major associations.
So how do you determine where you need to be? Obviously, I can't answer that for you. But I can tell you a little about our six events and why you might not want to miss them:
Full day
Formerly called the FundRaising Success Engage Conferences, these full-day events with networking receptions the night before have been enthusiastically received. We think it's the high-quality content plus casual atmosphere. We keep these to approximately 100-150 people and make sure to provide the most interaction possible, for the most information sharing available.
LEADERSHIP—May 5, Washington, D.C.—This event will zero in on the key issues that affect your organization as a whole—and how addressing those internal concerns will improve your overall fundraising and nonprofit leadership. Because the better your nonprofit runs, the smarter it operates, the more money you can raise. Or put it where you need it most. Get priceless legal information from a major nonprofit, and learn from experts that have successfully broken down silos to reach sky-high goals. In addition, get insights on dealing with a difficult board, harnessing risk, changing mind-sets and more.
EMERGING TECH—July 21, Philadelphia—The technology boom just keeps booming! Are you booming right along with it? Or are you still lighting sparklers? Wherever you are in the tech space, there will be something for you at this event. Is there an old technology that's new to you? Maybe you have a tech idea for your nonprofit and don't know how to get it off the ground. Or maybe you are running the Godzilla of all technology—but can't stand it. We'll tackle all this tech and more.
P2P—Oct. 1, Washington, D.C.—Learn peer-to-peer fundraising from your peers: case studies, roundtables and information sharing that's difficult to find anywhere else. Those who have been through the trenches will share what worked and what didn't. You'll leave completely jazzed and with real, tangible action items to take back to your colleagues. You may completely rethink your next event or peer-to-peer campaign—and blow it out of the water!
Wake Up Your Fundraising Breakfasts (April 16 in New York • Sept. 29 in D.C. • Oct. 15 in Chicago)
Intimate breakfasts with 40-50 of your peers and a panel of experts. You email your questions ahead of time and get answers, along with a lively discussion.
Because we keep them small, all of our events fill up fast. So when you see the registration email, don't wait. And I can't wait to see you at our next event! Send me an email, and I will even give you a special discount code.
Fondly,
Pia Payne
