Feb. 12, 2010, Philanthropy News Digest — Oakland-based Kaiser Permanente has announced fourth-quarter grants totaling $90 million to five hundred nonprofits across the country.
Several grants were awarded to groups working to keep individuals healthy during these difficult economic times. They include $180,000 to the Food Research Action Center for its program to increase access to healthy and affordable foods in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Montgomery and Prince George's counties; $150,000 to the Manna Food Center for programs to provide nutritious, kid-friendly food to children in Montgomery County; and $150,000 to Senior Connections for its program to feed low-income seniors on hunger waitlists in DeKalb County, Georgia.
