Keystone Alliance and Mission + Strategy Consulting Join Forces
Mission + Strategy Consulting is joining the Keystone Alliance family of organizations. Founded in 2009, Keystone provides shared nonprofit finance, IT, and HR services. Combined, M+S and Keystone offer nonprofits the full spectrum of strategic and administrative services.
By joining forces, M + S and Keystone will be able to provide nonprofit organizations with a single source for all of their collaboration and back-office needs, and ensure that the distinguished M+S legacy of impact continues far into the future. Since its inception, M+S has completed more than 60 separate mergers and partnership transactions with client organizations, and reviewed dozens more proposed collaborations.
Jean Butzen, M+S founder, is joining the Keystone team to effect a seamless transition. Butzen says, “The merger of M+S with Keystone will create a unique, one-stop-shop for collaboration services for nonprofit leaders in the region. Whether they are seeking a partnership, operational support, or a merger, we will have it all in house.”
M+S engagements, which include the assessment, exploration, and implementation of mergers, acquisitions, and other structural collaborations, will be led by Judie Caribeaux, Keystone’s new chief collaboration officer. Caribeaux brings extensive experience to this role, having provided senior leadership to five social impact organizations since 1996.
Caribeaux is uniquely qualified to excel in this new position due to her experience leading Family Shelter Service through a merger process with Metropolitan Family Services in 2019. She will transition from an M+S customer to its leader as part of the Keystone team.
Caribeaux says, "Jean has built a preeminent mergers and acquisition consulting practice through M+S. I am delighted to be a part of the Keystone family working to expand Jean's legacy. Under the Keystone brand, we have an opportunity to create diverse partnership solutions and increase equity and capacity so that nonprofits will thrive."
Keystone Alliance is led by Greg Petersen, who has served as its CEO since 2020 and was part of its founding team in 2009. He says, “Judie, Jean, and I have all experienced the benefits and challenges of strategic collaborations. Whether through a merger, alliance, or another route, the goal is to strengthen, secure, and sustain nonprofit missions. I’m so excited to welcome M+S, Jean, and Judie to Keystone. The field is under more pressure than ever – by facilitating collaborations, mergers, alliances, and other partnerships, we look forward to building nonprofit capacity and sustainability for years to come.”
