As a nonprofit organization matures and grows, new pressures inevitably arise. That is the case with Teach For America (TFA), as an NPR report detailed in December 2014.
As TFA has expanded to become a nonprofit with a more than $300 million annual operating budget, it has seen some alumni out there criticizing the one-time startup.
This is the reality of an expanding nonprofit, one that has ambitious goals and an innovative approach. Some donors and supporters may be averse to change, which provides a nonprofit such as TFA new pressures to deal with. But the TFA leadership is out to continue its mission of ensuring that children growing up in poverty get an excellent education. That means taking risks and subjecting itself to criticism, as is the case with nearly any growing organization.
To address the situation of risk management, TFA's Tracy-Elizabeth Clay, senior vice president of legal affairs, general counsel and board secretary of the organization, will present at the inaugural NonProfit PRO Leadership Conference. In her session, Risk Management: Harnessing Risk, Clay will discuss strategic and practical ways to harness risk as a nonprofit leader.
Join Clay and fellow presenters Richard Rumsey, VP of development and communications at Project HOPE; philanthropy coach, speaker and author Larry C Johnson, founder of The Eight Principles; and Paul Bellantone, president and CEO of Promotional Products Association International, at the NonProfit PRO Leadership Conference May 5 in Washington, D.C.
