#NPPTrendingNow Ep 110: The Major Gift Journey
Happy Friday everyone! Welcome back to the next episode of #NPPTrendingNow. In this series, we break down the top three coveted stories of the week. And this week, it’s all about the major gift journey, new tactics with monthly donors and tips for integration.
1. Richard Perry: The Reality of the Major Gift Journey
Richard Perry explains that life is never a straight line, so expectations should not be any different when it comes to major gifts. While individuals in your caseload are bound to go down, he shares what you can do to ensure that the overall trend line of your caseload goes up.
Here are Richard’s six tips:
- Work with qualified donors.
- Have a specific plan with each donor on your caseload, matching interests and passions.
- Be bold in you ask.
- In some cases, ask again!
- Be gracious and strategic in the “no’s.”
- Value the long term.
2. Erica Waasdorp: New Tactics With Monthly Donors
Next, Erica Waasdorp encourages you to try something new with your monthly donors. Trying out new things can be scary — we get it. But as a fundraiser, you should have the freedom to think outside of the box.
She shares a unique example in her blog post about an animal charity that tried out a new tactic. Read her blog post to find out the full story.
3. Rick Gentry: What Is Integration, Anyway?
The last trending article is from Rick Gentry from Merkle, Inc. In this article, Rick explains that there is no single definition of integration and breaks down four types: internal integration, data integration, brand integration and communications integration.
