Don Mooers
National Judge Advocate General
Navy League of the United States
The Navy League of the United States is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to enhancing the morale of active-duty personnel and their families, informing Congress and the American public of the importance of strong sea services and supporting youth through programs.
As the National Judge Advocate General, Don Mooers is responsible for making sure that all actions carried out at local and national levels are in accordance with core standards and meet all ethical requirements of the Navy League. He also oversees all of the organization’s contracts, including the $8.6 million revenue and expense streams for the organization.
While dealing with a challenging year with his health, Mooers continues to put forth his maximum effort to the organization. He devotes over 30 hours a week to the Navy League. When the organization was behind on revenues this past year, Mooers personally raised $50,000 in $1,000 increments through his commitment and devotion through phone calls and emails.
“Don can facilitate any meeting with grace and humility. He helps work through gnarly and thorny issues—some are policy, some are financial and some are legal—and helps achieve conclusion whenever possible,” Cari Thomas, executive director of the Navy League said.
Runner-Up
Marritje Greene
Board Member
Good Tidings Foundation
Marritje is an invaluable member of the Good Tidings Foundation Family. She goes above and beyond what is asked of her—attends fundraising events, contributes personally to the organization, donates items for the organization’s Auction Catalogue and serves as a sounding board for our founder, thanks to her extensive experience in philanthropy.
When the organization embarked on its $5 million endowment campaign, Greene and her husband committed a $1 million gift towards the campaign.
“The campaign, which was completed at the end of last year, would not have been a success without her generous support,” Laura Verson, director of operations for Good
Tidings Foundation, said.
