PayPal and Facebook have always been big supporters for charitable organizations. Today, on #GivingTuesday, to help encourage our community to give in a big way, the two have partnered up to match donations up to $7 million, their largest giving program to date.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is eligible to be matched up to $250,000, and a single donor can donate up to $20,000 to be matched. The matching began at 5 a.m. PST on Nov. 27 and will go through until the $7 million match runs out.
Over $200 million has been donated on #GivingTuesday through PayPal since 2012. Last year, $64 million was donated from 715,000 people in 181 countries through PayPal. So, in addition to the partnership with Facebook, PayPal is matching donations up to $500,000 through its holiday giving campaign. Once it has reached $500,000, PayPal will add 1 percent to any donation made through the campaign through Dec. 31.
