August 19, 2009, NPR — Charities are turning to the digital key pads at retailers' checkout lanes to help fundraise. Customers are especially happy to give if the charity is related to the business. For example, a pet rescue group raising money at a high-end dog food store. But charities might be losing out on the bigger dollars that come from actually knowing who's giving.
