1. The Gulf of California stretches over 900 miles, contains around 922 islands, and is surrounded by five Mexican states. Attracting more than two million sport fishermen, divers and tourists a year, it is home to more than eight million people, including eight indigenous peoples, who rely on the Gulf for their livelihoods.
