Rebuilding Together, Lowe's Announce $1 Million Contribution

Washington, D.C., July 30,2009 — Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation today announced a $1 million grant award to Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership.

As part of this partnership, Rebuilding Together will use the grant to complete critical home repairs for low-income families nationwide, with a special focus on energy efficiency and home accessibility components. The partnership goal is to complete approximately 35 projects on Make a Difference Day, October 24, a national day of helping others. These projects will also support a Lowe’s Employee Volunteer Day, and Lowe’s employees will participate in rebuild projects around the country. Grant funding will support Rebuilding Together’s AmeriCorps program that supports tomorrow’s future leaders, program development and building at more than 30 affiliate sites.

Since 2007, Lowe’s has sponsored more than 200 rebuild projects, including special initiatives such as assisting in rebuilding Little Sioux Boy Scouts Camp in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after the camp was destroyed by a tornado; rebuilding the Lower 9th Ward Community Center in New Orleans, Louisiana; and, a four-home repair blitz in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
