Rewarding Greatness
Rewarding Greatness
In the formative years of online fundraising, many nonprofit organizations assumed that if they built a Web site with a device to accept donations, donors would come. But to the chargrin of many fundraising pros who thought that was the only thing needed for effective online fundraising, donors came in fits and starts.
What fundraisers learned -- albeit slowly -- was that donors want information, information and more information. They want ways to voice their opinions to elected officials, tips on how to cope with dibilitating disases and a resource bank chock full of places to go, both online and off, to help the cause -- and get help themselves.
And yet only recently have the great sites in the nonprofit world been awarded for their rich content and fundraising prowess. The Web Marketing Association, for example, an organization founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and corporate Web development on the World Wide Web, currently is accepting entries for its WebAward competition, which includes a nonprofit category, through June 15.
In 2004, Production Manager Ben Hughes, Creative Director Rebecca Zhang and Designer Hans Xu were recognized with a Nonprofit WebAward for their work with WWF Children of the Earth. Other recent winners include Teen Health Talk, Road to Redemption, EcoKids Online and the Hazelton Foundation.
Entries will judged by a panel of independent Internet experts in such areas as design, navigations, innovation and usefulness to target audience. So get your site noticed. For more information, visit http://www.webaward.org
And for you direct-mail stragglers …
The deadline for the first annual FS Gold Awards for Direct-Mail Excellence has been extended. Entries must be received in our office by the end of day on Friday, June 24. Winners will be chosen in Acquisitions and Renewal categories (two each, based on mailing size; and Package of the Year). The Grand Control of the Year will be chosen from among packages that have found a home in the Who's Mailing What! Archive. Winners will be featured in the special Package of the Year edition of the magazine in September.
