Roundup River Ranch Receives $1 Million Grant from Hole in the Wall Camps Foundation
Edwards, Colorado, August 17, 2009 — Roundup River Ranch has been awarded a $1 million grant from Hole in the Wall Camps Foundation to assist with its mission of building a camp for children with life-threatening illnesses. “This grant signifies dedication from the Hole in the Wall Foundation in assisting Roundup River Ranch to move to the next level of sustainability for future operations,” said Alison Knapp, Founder and Board Chair of Roundup River Ranch. “The grant also provides great momentum for us to complete the capital campaign and bring us that much closer to breaking ground this fall.”
The $1 million grant will be directed toward the camp’s $20 million capital campaign. Construction on the camp is expected to begin in the fall and open in 2011. In addition to the grant, Roundup River Ranch has raised more than $700,000 in the last two months, bringing the camp’s total fundraising to more than $18 million. “Donor momentum is carrying the goal of opening a camp in 2011,” said Amy Militti, Roundup River Ranch’s Director of Development. “Our donors are experiencing a sense of urgency, and the fact that their support is making this camp possible from the ground up is adding to their passion for giving thousands of children a life-changing experience.”
Roundup River Ranch aspires to be a member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, which oversees the Hole in the Wall Foundation through a Board of Directors. The camp is following a set of guidelines that will lead to full membership upon the opening of the camp. These requirements are designed to assure that each member camp provides the highest level of safety and programming for the children. They are also designed to assure that each member camp has sound financial support. At this time the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps is assisting Roundup River Ranch to meet the necessary requirements. Being a part of such a well-established and acclaimed network of camps will provide Roundup River Ranch with the experience, knowledge and support to operate at the highest level of excellence.
Roundup River Ranch will start construction on 85 acres along the Colorado River east of Glenwood Canyon in Colorado in 2009. The camp will provide children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience camp with a fun, safe and empowering experience, free of charge. The Children’s Hospital of Denver is the founding partner hospital, ensuring that the children will have the on-site medical services necessary to their conditions. The camp will serve children from Colorado as well as Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah and Texas. As a provisional member of The Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, Roundup River Ranch is proud to continue Paul Newman’s dream of providing children with serious illnesses a camping experience.
