San Antonio Exec Named President of OneStar Foundation

Feb. 12, 2009, San Antonio Business Journal — Gov. Rick Perry appointed Elizabeth Seale the new president of the OneStar Foundation, an organization which connects nonprofits with resources and expertise to accomplish their missions.

The OneStar Foundation helps nonprofit groups improve ways to recruit and retain volunteers. The foundation also administers the federal AmeriCorps grants in the state as well as other grants and programs.

Seale hails from San Antonio. She replaces Susan Weddington, who is retiring. Weddington founded the organization in 2003.

Seale’s appointment begins March 23.

Prior to this appointment, Seale served as chief operating officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) where she oversaw and managed all CNCS programs, including AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, Learn and Serve America and the Office of Emergency Management.

CNCS is the nation’s largest grant maker of its kind, supporting service and volunteer efforts that improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement.

Seale was also the founding director of the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and served as adviser on Presidential Initiatives to the Commissioner for the Administration for Children, Youth and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Perry recognized Weddington for her hard work and dedication to the organization and noted that Seale’s experience makes her the right candidate to continue to move the organization forward.

“(Elizabeth Seale) is nationally recognized for her work in public policy, community development and social service delivery at the local, state and federal levels. She has also worked extensively with faith-based and community nonprofits to strengthen their capacity to meet local needs,” Perry says.
