Site Seeks Public Support to Get City Funds for Nonprofits

August 23, 2009, Jacksonville.com — As he mowed his lawn on a recent Saturday morning, the head of Jacksonville's public broadcasting station mulled over the plight of local nonprofits.

The city's social service, children's and cultural organizations have been working together to spread the message to politicians that they want to be viewed as partners in improving the city's quality of life. But WJCT president and CEO Michael Boylan said city leaders seemed to think otherwise, treating the organizations as another special interest group asking for handouts.
