Now in middle of the second decade of the 21st century, the world continues to become ever more digital and reliant on the Internet and technology. Computers are a common appliance, smartphones seem to be attached to everyone's fingertips and tablets provide a mix of both technologies.
Online marketing agency CharityDynamics, which focuses on leveraging technology to generate results for nonprofit organizations and initiatives, has witnessed the exponential growth of digital fundraising the past 10 years and decided to explore what's in store for the next decade. In fall 2014, 133 nonprofit professionals were surveyed for their views on what is in store for digital fundraising in the next 10 years. Here are some key findings from CharityDynamics' report on the survey, The Next 10 Years in Digital Fundraising:
- 85 percent of respondents feel that social media's role in fundraising will increase.
- The majority of survey participants believe more than 30 percent of donations will come through digital channels 10 years from now.
- 80 percent of respondents feel the quantity of charities that people give to will increase or stay the same.
- The majority of nonprofit professionals think digital fundraising will at least triple its slice of the donation pie.
- 68 percent of respondents believe smartphones will have the biggest growth for digital fundraising.
- 32 percent of participants believe donors will prefer a new digital channel as yet unearthed in 10 years.
- Nonprofit professionals are looking forward to technology-enabled two-way conversations with supporters.
