To our valuable readers:
COVID-19 is having an impact on our world, affecting the way we live and especially the way we work. While there is rising uncertainty about how long it will take for our country to “flatten the curve” and control the spread of this viral outbreak, social good never stops. But many nonprofit organizations are fighting and struggling to keep fundraising and operations going. As our economy is in a vulnerable state, many nonprofits are concerned about the health and future of their organization — and for good reason.
During this unprecedented time, it is critical for nonprofits to work harder and work together to fight for the resources they deserve to keep their important missions on track. And it’s time for every nonprofit in the U.S. to use their voices and speak up.
As you have heard, Congress is hard at work on the “Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act,” or better known as the CARES Act. This bill is aimed at providing emergency relief to individuals, families and businesses affected by COVID-19. The Nonprofit Alliance, the Independent Sector and other associations have been working together to speak up on behalf of the nonprofit sector.
What You Need to Do Today
It’s time for you to let your voice shine. The sector needs every single nonprofit organization in the U.S. — over 1.5 million voices — to take time today to tell Congress why nonprofits must be included in the CARES Act. It’s more important than ever for nonprofits to receive the funding they need to continue their hard, life-changing work. And Congress needs to recognize that.
By filling out this form, you will be asking your Congressional leaders to:
- Unlock charitable giving with a short-term universal charitable deduction available through 2021.
- Provide direct grants for nonprofits to meet increasing needs across a wide range of services.
- Ensure all nonprofits have access to any loans and tax credits made available to for-profit businesses, to support the 12 million employees that make up the third largest workforce in the U.S.
We need to take action today — because the Senate has been working on the CARES Act throughout the weekend and will vote on Monday, March 23, 2020.
We understand that this is a stressful time for everyone, especially nonprofits. But by banding together and filling out this form, you are speaking up on behalf of the entire sector and showing Congress why we matter.
Sincerely,
Nhu Te

Editor's Note: On Sunday, March 22, 2020, the Senate failed to reach a decision regarding the $2 trillion COVID-19 stimulus bill (CARES Act). The Senate convened again on March 23, 2020 for second vote, which ultimately led to a non-decision. NonProfit PRO is closely monitoring this topic and will keep you updated as frequently as we can.
