The 2011 Nonprofit Communications Trends Report was released yesterday. The 22-page report — conducted by Kivi Leroux Miller, president of Nonprofit Marketing Guide — reveals what 780 nonprofits believe are the most important communications tools for 2011, including:
- How often nonprofits plan to e-mail their typical supporters
- How often they plan to send direct mail
- How online marketing tools including social media compare in importance to more traditional and offline tools
- What excites nonprofit marketers about 2011
- What scares nonprofit marketers about 2011
Key findings include:
- 75 percent of nonprofits say they’ll e-mail supporters at least monthly.
- Facebook comes after only websites and e-mail as important communications tools for nonprofits.
- Facebook beats Twitter, 79 percent to 34 percent, as important to nonprofit marketers.
- Quarterly is the most popular frequency for nonprofits to send direct mail to the average supporter.
- What excites nonprofit communicators: new ways to connect with supporters, social media and better communications integration.
- What scares nonprofit communicators: money woes, hard-to-implement communications strategies and lack of staff time.
