It's not new, but the book "What No One Ever Tells You About Blogging and Podcasting" by Ted Demopolous is certainly worth a look by anyone who blogs. It's full of practical and immediately actionable information that will make your blog better. For example, it lists the three biggest mistakes bloggers make as:
- Not engaging in conversation: "[This] is as simple as answering comments," the author writes. "A blogger can answer comments with additional comments or in a new post that addresses the comments." P.S. It's also important to comment on other blogs that serve your industry
- Fear of linking: "A blog with a lot of links is more valuable to the reader than a linkless blog," he writes. "Your links give readers more information about the topic at hand and establish your authority as a writer who is well informed about your subject." Linking is also a great way to attract new readers, as authors of blogs you link to will know you're linking to them and most likely check out your blog.
- Being long-winded: "People on the Internet are in a rush," the author writes. "They tend to scan instead of read in detail. Make it easy on them." He suggests breaking up long posts into several smaller ones and referring to previous posts as needed.
