Despite the disappointments in the practices of some organizations following Sept. 11 and Hurricane Katrina, Solomon says the nonprofit sector continues to grow in quantity, quality and sophistication.
“The message of the trends of these last years is that integrity and ethical behaviors and practices are the sine qua non for success,” he says. “Good governance, management and absolute transparency are the best insurance for growing at a time of increased scrutiny, whether by government or by readily available information through innovations such as Guidestar, Charity Navigator or Better Business Bureau Web sites.
