College Park Professor Awarded Prestigious Fundraising Research Prize

The Association of Fundraising Professionals has awarded the AFP/Skystone Partners Prize for Research to Dr. Noah Drezner, assistant professor of higher education at the University of Maryland, College Park, for his outstanding work on identity-based donors, "Expanding the Donor Base in Higher Education: Engaging Non-Traditional Donors," published by Routledge.

Drezner’s book, deemed “excellent” by the AFP Research Council that awards the prize, adds new data and ideas to the relatively scarce literature on identity-based donors and how culture influences philanthropy.

DoGooder Video Award Winners Inspire Change

Congratulations to the winners of the DoGooder Video Awards, who were announced at the Nonprofit Technology Conference. The DoGooder Awards recognize the creative and effective use of video to promote social good. The four winning videos are “Right By You” from Partners for Mental Health (Best Nonprofit Video), “Nutiquette: A Dude’s Guide to Checking His Nuts” from Canadian Cancer Society (Funny For Good Award), “The Paradise That Wasn’t” from Wide Angle Youth Media (Most Inspiring Youth Media) and “Slaying Childhood Cancer” from Alex’s Lemonade Stand (ImpactX Award).

Eileen Heisman Named AFP's 2014 Outstanding Fundraising Professional

Eileen Heisman, ACFRE, whose leadership as president and CEO of National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) has transformed it into the largest, independent provider of donor-advised funds in the U.S., has been named the 2014 Outstanding Fundraising Professional by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

The award is presented to the fundraiser who has practiced his or her profession in an exemplary manner for at least 15 years while generating significant revenue for his or her organizations.

If They Only Knew …

Fundraisers, on the whole, are dedicated, passionate and tireless advocates of the causes they champion and of the greater good. The overwhelming majority are meticulously ethical and completely undeserving of the shadow that hangs darkly over their profession.
