While at the Nonprofit Technology Conference last week in Minneapolis, we were on hand to see the winners of the 2013 DoGooder Video Awards announced. Four finalists were chosen for each category, and then the winners were selected by the public. InsideClimate News — a 5-year-old nonprofit news site dedicated to covering the environment — was awarded the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for national reporting for its series on a 2010 pipeline oil spill in Michigan's Kalamazoo River. Sig Gissler, the administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes, acknowledged that InsideClimate News was not as well-known as past online site winners such as Huffington Post and ProPublica. But he said the site exemplified a larger trend among the winners — a commitment to watchdog journalism.
A generous couple in Saskatchewan; an outstanding family foundation supporting causes around the world; a volunteer legend in Vancouver; a fundraising pioneer in Wisconsin; a dynamic brother-sister team in Georgia; an inspiring newspaper project in Calgary; and a heroic young woman in Minnesota are all recipients of the Association of Fundraising Professionals 2013 Awards for Philanthropy.
As I pored over the nominations in this year’s Fundraising Professionals of the Year Awards, I was reminded once again of how very blessed and grateful I am to be even a small part of what you do. Thank you.
