As a nonprofit professional, I love to use the titles of some of the Beatles songs as a metaphor for what nonprofit professionals do to promote their profession. These are a sample of 15 Beatles song titles and my translated thoughts.
Taking the first step toward a possible face-off over the Boy Scouts of America’s ban on openly gay adult members or employees, the organization’s New York affiliate said on Thursday that it had hired a gay Eagle Scout to work in a scout camp this summer. Ken Berger, who led the country’s most prominent nonprofit watchdog, Charity Navigator, for almost seven years, abruptly left his job this week after the board decided to find a leader with more expertise in technology. "Charity Navigator has been going through a planning process and doing a lot of thinking about where we’re headed next," Berger said in an interview. "As part of that, the organization is increasingly seeing itself as a technology company."

The Direct Marketing Association's (DMA) 2015 Response Rate Report revealed 65 percent of respondents use two or more media types in their marketing campaigns, with 44 percent reporting they use three or more. Of the seven key channels examined (Mobile, Email, Online Display, Paid Search, Telephone, and Direct Mail), email ranked at the top, with a full 83 percent of respondents reporting they used the channel in their marketing campaigns.
Being responsive and accountable to the donors who invest in your organization is fast becoming the single most important factor in fundraising success. Neglect it at your peril.
