The 2015 BNP Paribas Individual Philanthropy Index reveals that philanthropy is growing worldwide, increasing by five points on average in 2015. Out of the four regions, Europe is now almost level with the USA, with a strong increase in current and projected giving. Trends emerging in the third edition of the index show that “impact/mission investing” is seen as the most promising trend by most philanthropists (52 percent each) worldwide.
U.K. charities could do much more to help people who take part in fundraising events for them, according to a Blackbaud survey of more than 1,000 event fundraisers. The research found that around three quarters of the event participants receive no advice on how best to fundraise; in addition, 58 percent of them say their fundraising efforts were “not properly acknowledged” by the charity they were fundraising for.
As part of her research for Humber College, Rebecca Farrell conducted a survey and received responses from 128 charities in Canada. Of those, 44.53 percent said they did not have a planned giving program in place. When the perception is that there is no time, knowledge and resources to implement a planned giving program, it is understandable that so many charities in Canada are missing out on what is one of the most rewarding and satisfying relationships an organization can have with its donors.
Reddit announced it would donate $82,765.95 to the Electric Frontier Foundation (EFF), a group that defends civil liberties in the digital world. Together with technologists, activists and attorneys, EFF works to defend free speech online and fight illegal surveillance, in addition to its other advocacy work. Reddit is donating 10 percent of its 2014 revenue to a number of noteworthy organizations whose missions fall in line with that of the Reddit community. It named its recipients after 80,000 users cast their votes for U.S.-based nonprofits they deemed worthy of getting the funds.

Chapman University has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by a 98-year-old philanthropist who had charged that the university took advantage of his age to get him to donate $12 million for a technology building. University officials said donations from James and Catherine Emmi now will be used to create a scholarship fund. The agreement will resolve the suit, according to a brief statement issued Wednesday.
The Clinton Foundation accepted millions of dollars from seven foreign governments during Hillary Rodham Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state, including one donation that violated its ethics agreement with the Obama administration, foundation officials disclosed Wednesday. Most of the contributions were possible because of exceptions written into the foundation’s 2008 agreement, which included limits on foreign-government donations.
