$12 Million in Support Names City of Hope’s Graduate School of Biological Sciences, Establishes Visiting Professorship

LOS ANGELES, May 15, 2009 — Building on its longstanding support of City of Hope, the law firm of Irell & Manella LLP has committed $7 million in gifts to support City of Hope’s Graduate School of Biological Sciences. A $5 million gift from the firm, matched by a $5 million anonymous gift, will rename the school as the Irell & Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences.  Another $2 million from the firm will create the Irell & Manella Visiting Professorship.

Hoda Kotb and Kay Unger to Receive Top Philanthropic Honor From City of Hope

LOS ANGELES — Television co-host and news correspondent Hoda Kotb and fashion designer Kay Unger will receive City of Hope’s top philanthropic honor, The Spirit of Life® Award, on Monday, May 4, at the Waldorf=Astoria, with top news media, fashion and entertainment leaders attending. Hosted by City of Hope’s East End Chapter/Jeanne Kaye League, the “Woman of the Year” luncheon will honor these two women who have made notable contributions to their professions, their community and to charitable causes. Kotb and Unger, both cancer survivors, are both staunch advocates for the medical advancement and treatment of cancer.

City of Hope Named Official Charity of 2009 NFL Season on FOX Sports

City of Hope, a leading research, treatment and education center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases, has been selected by FOX Sports as one of four charities to be featured in FOX Sports Supports, the network’s on-air charitable initiative designed to raise awareness, provide funds and boost volunteerism for health-related charities. Final selection of the charities was determined by a vote of FOX Sports employees.
