Heifer International, the global hunger and poverty nonprofit, is entering the digital publishing arena with a tablet app for its long-running World Ark magazine. The free app, which will be available on iPads and Android-powered tablets, will allow users to interact like never before with the stories, images and videos from around the world produced by Heifer International. Heifer International is the first development nonprofit to create such a digital publication.
Eventbrite, the self-service registration and ticketing platform, announced a new survey revealing trends among Americans who support nonprofits with donations of time and money. The findings, drawn from a uSamp online survey of 1,772 American adults commissioned by Eventbrite, reveal that while 72 percent of those surveyed have supported a cause with a donation of time or money in the past year, only 21 percent describe themselves as being personally passionate about the cause they supported.
Bloomberg Philanthropies announced the 20 cities selected as finalists for the Mayors Challenge, a competition created to inspire American cities to generate innovative ideas that solve major challenges and improve city life — and that ultimately can be shared with other cities across the nation. The grand prize winning city will receive a $5 million prize, while four runner-up cities will receive $1 million each.

Nonprofits can finally put away those hand-drawn money-tracking thermometer posters, and join the YouTube Nonprofit Program. The new online feature allows organizations to create campaigns, track their progress, set goals like increased views or subscribers, and accept contributions.
Earlier this year, YouTube rolled out some additional nonprofit-based perks, including the Playbook Guide, a how-to resource on creating content, raising funds, connecting with community members, and more. The site also made the donate button more prominent.
The Republican National Convention Tampa Bay Host Committee brought in nearly $55.3 million in contributions: $44.9 million in cash and $10.4 million in donations of goods or services. The host committee had 18 donors who gave $1 million or more. Those included hedge funds and their founders, high-tech companies, industrialists, CEOs and several charitable trusts. Altogether, those 18 donors accounted for 60 percent of the money raised for the RNC.
