Tens of thousands of people made donations totaling a record-breaking $14.4 million to 900 nonprofits on North Texas Giving Day on Thursday.
More than 37,000 people donated from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as 14 countries and every state in the U.S., according to a press release from the Communities Foundation of Texas.

Retailer J.C. Penney has launched jcp cares, a new charitable giving program. Through jcp cares, J.C. Penney will support a new cause each month by inviting customers to round up their purchases to the nearest whole dollar and donate the difference to the company's featured charity partner. It kiccked off July 1 with jcpenney's support of the USO. Along with round-up donations raised by customers throughout the month of July, jcpenney will be making a $1 million donation to the USO.

Charleston, S.C. (May 7, 2012) - Blackbaud today announced that it has completed its acquisition of Convio, a leading provider of on-demand constituent engagement solutions. Under the terms of the merger agreement, Blackbaud paid an aggregate purchase price of approximately $325 million. Blackbaud financed the deal through a combination of cash and borrowings from its credit facility.
The Salvation Army says it set a new fundraising record with its 2011 Red Kettle campaign during the holidays, raising $147.6 million across the nation. That record is a 3.4 percent increase over 2010’s campaign, which raised a record $142 million. The Red Kettle campaign is now 120 years old, dating back to its beginnings in 1891 on San Francisco’s wharf. The donations support social services.
