Troy, Michigan, July 30, 2009 — The Kresge Foundation’s new community arts and civic engagement project, Kresge Community Arts, is being rolled out in three pilot cities: St. Louis, Missouri, Baltimore, Maryland, and Detroit, Michigan. The St. Louis and Baltimore efforts are already underway; the new grant opportunity is being launched in Detroit today.

July 7, 2009 —  When Major League Baseball All-Stars step to the plate during the 80th Midsummer Classic, they will have an added incentive to produce hits. In response to the growing need for emergency food assistance nationwide, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will donate $5,000 for every recorded hit in the MLB All-Star Game to Feeding America, the nation's leading hunger-relief organization.

WASHINGTON, March 30, 2009 — Rebuilding Together, the nation's leading nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership, HGTV and partners will once again team up to Change the World. As part of the HGTV Change the World. Start at Home campaign, online voters named veterans' group homes Windsor Transitional House in St. Louis, Mo., and the Housing for Homeless Vets Corp. located on Romain Street in Philadelphia, Pa., as the winners of the campaign's online vote. The winning projects will receive much-needed renovations to make the homes more energy efficient and enjoyable for residents. In addition, the makeovers also will be featured in an HGTV special in October 2009.

In the Gilded Age of the 1890s, when the local opera company held a benefit, it might have included world-class singers and ice sculptures ringed with caviar. Tickets would have been steeply priced, and the bedizened guests would have lined up to spend lavishly on games of chance that helped the charity.
